Mealworm Habitats

We researched more on our question about mealworms. We asked last week, "Where do mealworms live?"

After searching online and in some resource books, we found that mealworms usually live in places where they find their food. Mealworms live in dirt, under rocks, and other places where their predators have a hard time finding them.

The Mealworm Research Project

So far group 4, Lizbeth Galindo, Megan Ymbert and Martin Rodriguez has researched mealsworms online.

Some Facts:
A mealworm is not a worm. It is a larva of a beetle. First a mealworm will start off as an egg. It takes about 4 to 19 days for the egg to hatch. It then becomes a mealworm. It then enters a pupa stage. This stage lasts from 2-3 weeks up to 9 months. At the pupa stage, it does not eat. The pupa stage is transforming itself into an adult beetle. The adult beetle lives for about a year.

Vocabulary:
pupa- The nonfeeding stage between the larva and adult in the metamorphosis of insects.
transform- To change the nature, function, or condition of.
decay- Dying, decomposing matter.
metamorphisis- Passing through four separate stages of growth.
hatch- To emerge from or break out of an egg.

Goal:
Our group question that we are going to research is "Where do mealworms live?" Our group is going to look in some books to find the answer.
